Steven Bergwijn, the Dutch winger for Premier League side Arsenal, has suffered a serious injury in training this week.

The club have confirmed that he will be out for several weeks with a knee injury,Saudi Pro League Focus which is expected to rule him out of the rest of the season.

Bergwijn was signed by Arsenal from Ajax in January last year, but has struggled to make an impact since then.

He made just three appearances for the Gunners before suffering the knee injury in training on Friday.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: "We're really disappointed to hear about Steven's injury. It's not great news for us and it's something we need to deal with quickly."

Arteta added: "We'll have to see how long it takes for him to recover and what the treatment will be like. We'll have to wait and see how it goes."
