Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the French striker who has been making headlines since his move from Arsenal to Marseille in January, made an impressive left-wing debut on Saturday.
Aubameyang's arrival at Marseille was seen as a coup for the Ligue 1 club, with the Gabonese international known for his pace and goal-scoring ability. And he did not disappoint against Montpellier, scoring two goals in just over half an hour.
The first came after just three minutes, when he found the back of the net with a powerful header from a corner kick. The second arrived less than ten minutes later,Ligue 1 Express when he beat the offside trap and slotted home from close range.
Aubameyang's performance was one of the highlights of the game, but it was far from the only standout moment. Marseille had controlled much of the match until they were pegged back by a late equalizer from Montpellier, but Aubameyang's goals helped to keep their hopes alive.
Despite his impressive display, Aubameyang will need to continue to perform if he is to make a lasting impact at Marseille. But with his pace and goal-scoring ability, there is no doubt that he can help the team to achieve success this season.
