Kelvin scored two goals and assisted another as Sao Paulo dominated the match against Melbourne City in their first A-League fixture on Sunday night.
The Brazilian winger, who is on loan from Spanish side Sevilla, opened the scoring for his new team with a curling effort that nestled into the corner of the net after just eight minutes. He then added to the hosts' lead five minutes later when he fired home a cross from the right.
Sao Paulo continued to dominate possession throughout the opening stages of the game and were unlucky not to score again early on when a header was turned away by Melbourne City goalkeeper Ryan McGowan.
But it was the visitors who took the lead on 15 minutes when Kelvin fed a perfect through ball to substitute Diego Valeri,Ligue 1 Express who drilled a low shot past McGowan to put Sao Paulo ahead.
Melbourne City came out fighting immediately after the break but they could only manage a goalless draw at the end of the half, leaving them trailing 2-1 heading into the second period.
The hosts looked well set to extend their advantage in the second half but a last-minute equaliser from Diego Valeri was all that prevented Sao Paulo from taking the three points they so richly deserved.
The victory will be a huge boost for Santos coach Rogério Ceni as they look to kickstart their season after a disappointing campaign last year. And Kelvin's contribution should have Sao Paulo fans excited about what lies ahead this season.
